Patch the Play Area – fight poverty one square metre at a time
Wishaw families are being battered by the cost‑of‑living crisis. Every weekday from 30 June to 8 August, up to 40 children rely on MADE4U for a fresh breakfast, hot lunch and safe play while their parents work low‑paid shifts. The centre is also a daily lifeline for vulnerable children with additional support needs and for older adults seeking company, support and a hot meal. Fifteen of those youngsters stay on for the afternoon – five hours of free childcare that parents simply couldn’t afford elsewhere.
Two months ago vandals set fire to our soft‑pour play surface, gouging a deep, burnt‑out hole that forced us to fence off the garden. Unless we patch it by 28 June we can’t open the programme, the pantry can’t use the outdoor area to queue safely, and our parenting and employability sessions lose their breakout space.
The kids love youth club, you all do such a great job with the kids and for the community 🥰
Are you a local business that wants to see Wishaw’s families thrive?
Join Kier Construction, Tilbury Douglas and other community-minded firms by backing Patch for Poverty.
A gift of £250–£1,000 will be recognised with your logo on the garden thank-you board, tagged shout-outs to our 3.7 k Facebook followers and 1 k Instagram friends, and a photo-op for the Wishaw Press if you wish.
Put up £1,000 or more as a headline match and we’ll splash your brand across every social post and invite your team for a volunteering team-day if you would benefit from this.
Every pound you give turns into safe play space, free meals and five hours of cost-saving childcare a day for 40 local children—all summer long. Ready to get involved? Email contact@made4uinml2.org.uk or message our Facebook page and we’ll make it happen.
